Air source heat pumps are an incredibly efficient, renewable source of energy, able to cut your carbon footprint by 44%, which is why the government is encouraging households to invest in one. You should recoup the installation costs in about 10 – 12 years on average vs 5 – 7 years for a gas boiler, however, heat pumps can last twice as long as a gas boiler.
Installing a new air source heat pump costs £8,000 – £12,000 on average (not including a hot water cylinder) – but the Government is now providing a £5,000 grant for sufficiently insulated homes (your radiators may need to be increased in size).
